Mr. Hameed Haroon born in Karachi on October 27th 1952 holds a Master’s degree in Regional Studies (East Asia) from Harvard University and two Master’s degree in Political Economy and Development Economics, from the Boston University. He also holds a B.Sc. (Hons) in Economics from the London School of Economics. From 1998 to date, he has served as Chief Executive Officer of Pakistan Herald Publications (Pvt.) Ltd. & Pakistan Herald Ltd., the publishers and printers of the Dawn Group of Newspapers.
Prior to this, he was Deputy Chief Executive. Mr. Hameed Haroon has thrice been President of the All Pakistan Newspapers Society, the apex body of all the major Newspapers and Magazines in Pakistan. A leading culture and human rights activist of Pakistan. He is also involved in the promotion of culture, music and performing arts, films and theater, visual arts, community services, conservation and heritage archaeology, education and health. He currently serves on various communities related to these projects. Presently he is Chairman Executive Committee for the development of Mohenjodaro Member of the National Cultural Heritage Committee and the Managing Trustee of the Mohatta Palace Museum. Hameed Haroon has made several appearances in the electronic media as presenter for UK’s Channel 4 TV in London and as a political commentator on New Delhi TV in India. He has also of directed plays for both theater and television in Pakistan. He has also been associated with the publishing of several books. He was the co-curator of the Holy Sinner- a mojor retrospective of the non-calligraphic works of Sadequain, Pakistan’s well-known prolific artist. He was also the moving spirit for the 600 page catalogue of this colossal exhibition, the lingest running art exhibition in Pakistan’s history. In 2004, he curated another spectacular exhibition entitled “JeWel in the Crown – Karachi under the Raj 1843 -1947. This exhibition brought together over 200 photographs, portraits and artefacts providing rare insights into Karachi from another era. Over 250,000 spectators viewed the magnificent exhibition and due to popular demand, this exhibition remained open toll March 2006.
He was awarded the Sitara-e-Imtiaz, Pakistan’s highest civil award in 2004 and other awards both national and international for this contribution to arts and culture. In 2006, the Italian Ambassador Mr. Roberto Mazzaotta conferred the Italian Order of Merit award on one of the “most outstanding public personalities in Pakistan on behalf of the President of Italy. He is associated with the publishing and reprinting of seven books on art. Besides his varied interests, Hameed is fluent in Mandarin, Chinese and has one of the largest private collections of paintings and books.
Born on 1st March, 1946 at Multan, is the Chief Editor and Publisher of Daily AFTAB Multan, Lahore and Karachi. He is B.Sc (Honors) & D.H.M.S. He has more than 45 years of experience in his journalistic career. He worked with regional as well as different national newspapers before starting his own newspaper and kept the most leading posts. He started Daily AFTAB from Multan on 6th September, 1975. Under his editorship, AFTAB Multan played a vital role in the Nizam-e-Mustafa Movement in 1976. It achieved the hallmark in its circulation figures of above eighty thousand copies daily. The city of Multan was the center of this movement and also had a great focus worldwide. With his commanding leadership, the newspaper soon became famous among not only in all parts of the country but also in the international associates of the press. After the success of Multan, Mumtaz A. Tahir started Daily AFTAB from Lahore on 14th August, 1983. It was again a vital political scenario for the country. MRD (Movement of the Restoration of Democracy) started against the dictatorship of Gen. Zia ul Haq and again the focus of the movement was the city of Lahore. With providing the best coverage and real picture at the ground, Daily Aftab Lahore successfully raised its circulation up to sixty five thousand copies daily. In 1986 he joined APNS (All Pakistan Newspaper Society) as a member publication. Mr. Tahir raised the voice for the Regional Dailies; Medium & Small sized publications of the country. He is no doubt considered to be the most respectful by the members in this regard. He has fought for the rights of Regional Dailies with not only inside the Society but also with all upcoming governments. He served Council of Newspaper Editors (CPNE) as Vice President twice as well as Public Relations Secretary. He also served APNS as Vice President and Joint Secretary. He was elected three times the Vice President of APNS. He is member of the Executive Committee APNS and CPNE for last two decades. Currently he holds the Chair of APNS Punjab Committee. Mumtaz A. Tahir is also serving different social and cultural organizations such as: i) President Khawaja Farid Cultural Forum Pakistan ii) President Khawaja Farid Academy Pakistan iii) Public Relations Secretary Social Welfare Society of Nishtar Medical College Multan. Mumtaz A. Tahir has travelled abroad at various occasions and to different parts of the world. He has accompanied Mr. Nawaz Sharif (Then-Prime Minister of Pakistan) in 1997 to the United National’s General Assembly session, where he met a lot of leadership of the world.
Sarmad Ali is Managing Director at the Jang Media Group, Pakistan’s largest media conglomerate having presence in Print, Broadcast and the Digital space. He is responsible for the group’s revenue function.
Sarmad Ali has over twenty-five years of experience in marketing, advertising and media management. He has been associated with the Jang Group since 1994 when he joined the group as Executive Director of the English daily “The News”. Under his stewardship, The News became one of Pakistan’s two premier English dailies. In 1997 he took over as the Group’s Executive Director, Marketing & Sales and in 2006 was promoted as Managing Director.
Prior to joining the Jang Group, Sarmad has been associated with some of the country’s leading advertising agencies including IAL/Saatchi, where he worked as Director Client Service from 1987 to 1993.
He is presently President of the All Pakistan Newspapers Society (APNS) and has previously served as its Secretary General and Joint Secretary. He is also President of the International Advertising Association’s Pakistan Chapter and serves on IAA’s Global Board of Directors. Sarmad also serves on the council of the World Branding Forum. He is Board member and Treasurer of the Management Association of Pakistan. He is the Chairman of the Ad-Asia 2019 organizing committee.
Described as of one of Pakistan’s marketing thought leaders, Sarmad has been thrice the President of the Marketing Association of Pakistan. In 1999, he was awarded the coveted Marketing Excellence Award for his contribution in the field of marketing, Ranked amongst Pakistan’s top 100 Business Leaders, Sarmad received the Asian Brand Leadership Award from the Asian Brand Congress in 2007 and the 50 Most Talented CMOs Award at the World Marketing Summit in 2013.
In 2013, the President of Pakistan conferred upon Sarmad the Sitara-I-Imtiaz, Pakistan’s third highest Civil Award.
He serves on the Governing Board of the Intellectual Property Organization, Cabinet Division, Government of Pakistan and has also served in the past, as member of the Prime Minister’s Task Force on Privatization and Investment in 2003 and as member of the Sindh I. T. Board from 2000–2003.
Sarmad has also been on the Jury of the Global AME Awards (Advertising & Marketing Effectiveness) as well as the M&M Global Media Marketing & Advertising Awards and INMA (International News Media Association) awards.
Sarmad is also on the Board of Directors of the Pakistan Parkinson’s Society and Board of Governors of the Friends of the Burns Centre.He holds a Master degree from Villanova University, Pa, USA.
Syed Muhammad Munir Jilani born on 1st June, 1964 at Faisalabad. M.A Journalism with Roll of Honour, from Punjab University Lahore, Chief Editor Daily Paigham, Faisalabad, Lahore. He started his career in journalism in 1983 as Editor-in-Charge. Also worked with Mashriq and APP for some time in 1988 and then assumed the charge of Chief Editor Daily Paigham. He was Joint Secretary CPNE for the year 2005-2006. He is serving Executive Committee of the APNS for the last 15 years
