Sarmad Ali is Managing Director at the Jang Media Group, Pakistan’s largest media conglomerate having presence in Print, Broadcast and the Digital space. He is responsible for the group’s revenue function.
Sarmad Ali has over twenty-five years of experience in marketing, advertising and media management. He has been associated with the Jang Group since 1994 when he joined the group as Executive Director of the English daily “The News”. Under his stewardship, The News became one of Pakistan’s two premier English dailies. In 1997 he took over as the Group’s Executive Director, Marketing & Sales and in 2006 was promoted as Managing Director.
Prior to joining the Jang Group, Sarmad has been associated with some of the country’s leading advertising agencies including IAL/Saatchi, where he worked as Director Client Service from 1987 to 1993.
He is presently President of the All Pakistan Newspapers Society (APNS) and has previously served as its Secretary General and Joint Secretary. He is also President of the International Advertising Association’s Pakistan Chapter and serves on IAA’s Global Board of Directors. Sarmad also serves on the council of the World Branding Forum. He is Board member and Treasurer of the Management Association of Pakistan. He is the Chairman of the Ad-Asia 2019 organizing committee.
Described as of one of Pakistan’s marketing thought leaders, Sarmad has been thrice the President of the Marketing Association of Pakistan. In 1999, he was awarded the coveted Marketing Excellence Award for his contribution in the field of marketing, Ranked amongst Pakistan’s top 100 Business Leaders, Sarmad received the Asian Brand Leadership Award from the Asian Brand Congress in 2007 and the 50 Most Talented CMOs Award at the World Marketing Summit in 2013.
In 2013, the President of Pakistan conferred upon Sarmad the Sitara-I-Imtiaz, Pakistan’s third highest Civil Award.
He serves on the Governing Board of the Intellectual Property Organization, Cabinet Division, Government of Pakistan and has also served in the past, as member of the Prime Minister’s Task Force on Privatization and Investment in 2003 and as member of the Sindh I. T. Board from 2000–2003.
Sarmad has also been on the Jury of the Global AME Awards (Advertising & Marketing Effectiveness) as well as the M&M Global Media Marketing & Advertising Awards and INMA (International News Media Association) awards.
Sarmad is also on the Board of Directors of the Pakistan Parkinson’s Society and Board of Governors of the Friends of the Burns Centre.He holds a Master degree from Villanova University, Pa, USA.
Mr. Mehtab Khan was born on May 2, 1957 in Murree. He is F.A. from Gordon College Rawalpindi in 1972, Diploma in Civil Engineering from Govt. College of Technology Rawalpindi in 1975. Went to Germany in 1977, Studied in Inlingua College Frankfurt (Germany), worked in Newspaper Frankfurter Rundshau and established business in Germany. He started Daily Ausaf London in May 2002 and Daily Ausaf Islamabad in August 2002. Worked as Finance Secretary CPNE in 2003-04 and 2004-05 and Convener of Federal Capital Committee of APNS for the year 2005,06,07,08,09 and 10. He remained member of APNS Executive Committee for the year 2007-08 till date. He was elected Senior Vice President for the term 2011-12 and 2012-13.
Mr. Umer Mujib Shami is among the breed of young newspaper entrepreneurs who have recently joined the ranks of A.P.N.S. He holds Masters Degree in Business Administration from Lahore University of Management Science (LUMS). He had a distinguished educational career and also let the LUMS team to victory in World Business Games held in Georgia USA. He got his initial journalistic training in The News International and worked there as Commerce Reporter for one year before joining LUMS. He remained an avid reader and a regular contributor to different newspapers and periodicals on issue of national importance. He also worked in Jardine Fleming, a renowned Honk Kong based investment group for some time. He also briefly worked as editor of weekly "Zindagi" an influential political weekly after his graduation. Mr. Umer Mujib Shami assumed the responsibility of publisher and Managing Editor of Daily Pakistan on January 01, 1999. one of the largest national urdu newspaper. The Newspaper at that time was facing financial difficulties and was confronted by declining revenues in the face of ever increasing competition. However in the last seven years, the newspaper is put back on the road to growth and progress under his management. At present the newspaper is being published from five stations simultaneously and is among the most respected and trusted names in the Pakistani Journalism. He served as the Finance Secretary of APNS from April 2007 to March 2009. The Pakistan group of Publication is at present participating in a number of new venture in media and IT sector, under his management.
Syed Muhammad Munir Jilani born on 1st June, 1964 at Faisalabad. M.A Journalism with Roll of Honour, from Punjab University Lahore, Chief Editor Daily Paigham, Faisalabad, Lahore. He started his career in journalism in 1983 as Editor-in-Charge. Also worked with Mashriq and APP for some time in 1988 and then assumed the charge of Chief Editor Daily Paigham. He was Joint Secretary CPNE for the year 2005-2006. He is serving Executive Committee of the APNS for the last 15 years.
Mr. Waseem Ahmed son of Allah Ditta was born in Bhawalpur in 1960 and is a graduate. He is Editor-in-Chief Daily AWAM Quetta/Hub and Daily Public, Quetta. He started his career in journalism from regional newspaper Daily Nara-e-Haq, Quetta in 1987 as a Sub-Editor, and started Daily AWAM, Quetta in 1989 and Daily Public in 1999. He was elected executive member of APNS for the terms starting 2000-2001 onwards. He was elected Finance Secretary for the year 2013-14 and 2014-15. Presently, he is Chairman, Provincial Committee Balochistan.
